Historic visitors #13 May

On Monday morning the doorbell rang. I didn't know there was a doorbell, I was surprised. I was even more surprised when Christine told me she was the daughter of John France - the builders and first residents of the house.

As we walked around the house Christine shared lots of childhood memories including, where the Christmas tree was located and races in carts down the slope in the garden. Kindly, she shared some pictures of the house being built in 1966, including her father digging while the children ran around in the foundations.

Emails with pictures and memories were exchanged with Christine and her brother David after the visit. David told me that their father paid £900 for the land, and a further £5,900 to build the house. He also told me that the project was expected to take 6 - 8 months, but eventually took almost two years to complete.

Hopefully when renovations are completed the house will regain some of its former glory.
